Thank You Stickers and Tags for Small Business Packaging

The cheapest thing in the parcel is often the most photographed. Here is how to use it properly.

4 min read

A thank you sticker costs a few cents and is frequently the only branded surface in a parcel that the buyer actually looks at. For an online seller with no shopfront, it is the closest thing you have to a handshake.

Most people either skip it or over think it. Here is the middle.

What to actually print on it

Your shop name, not a slogan

The buyer already bought. The sticker is not doing persuasion work, it is doing recognition work. A name they can search later is worth more than a clever line they will not remember.

A handle, if you want the photo

If your buyers post unboxings, put your Instagram or TikTok handle on it. That is the single highest return decision on the whole sticker, because it converts someone else's post into a searchable route back to you.

Keep it legible at the real size

Text that looks fine on your screen at 400 percent can be unreadable at one inch. One inch is roughly the smallest size where a name plus a handle stays comfortably readable. Below that, drop the handle.

Choosing a finish

Matt

Reads premium, does not glare in a photograph, and takes pen if you want to write an order number on it. The default choice for most sellers.

Gloss

Brighter, more color saturation, and it handles moisture. Choose it for anything going near a fridge, a bathroom or a drink.

Transparent

The design floats on the packaging rather than sitting on a white square. Excellent on kraft card and colored tissue, poor on anything busy.

Gold foil

The one that gets photographed. Use it as your main seal and keep the rest of the packaging plain, because foil competes with everything.

Our thank you stickers cover all four, and pretty things inside labels work well as a secondary sticker on tissue.

Stickers or tags

They do different jobs and most sellers eventually use both.

A sticker seals. It closes tissue, holds a box, marks a bag, and it disappears into the packaging as part of the structure. A foil tag is a separate object that gets handled and often kept, so it carries more weight for a higher value item or a gift order.

A reasonable rule: sticker on every order, tag on orders above whatever your average sale is.

If you sell food

Bakeries and home food businesses have an extra consideration. Baked with love labels work for the decorative side, but anything making a claim about contents, allergens or nutrition needs to follow FDA labeling requirements. Keep the decorative sticker and the compliance label as separate items rather than trying to combine them.

Sending us artwork

File formats

PNG, PDF, SVG or AI. Vector files, meaning SVG, AI or a vector PDF, print sharpest and are essential for foil. A high resolution PNG works for most standard printing.

Bleed and safe area

Extend your background about 3 mm past the cut line and keep all text at least 3 mm inside it. Cutting has a small tolerance, and this is what stops a logo losing its edge.

If your file is not print ready

Send it anyway. We prepare files for print and foil at no design fee, and we will tell you before printing if resolution is a problem rather than after.

How many to order

More than feels sensible. Stickers are the cheapest per unit item you will buy and the price break at 500 pieces is significant, so ordering three months of stock at once usually costs barely more than ordering one month.

If you go through them steadily, ask for a standing quote on the bulk order page and simply reorder against it.

One thing most sellers get wrong

Changing the design too often. The point of a recognition sticker is recognition, which requires repetition. A buyer who has seen the same sticker three times knows who you are. A buyer who has seen three different stickers has seen three different shops.

FAQ

1. What size should a thank you sticker be?

Between one and two inches for most packaging. One inch is the smallest that keeps a shop name and a social handle comfortably readable.

2. Are your stickers waterproof?

Gloss and transparent stock handle moisture well. Matt paper stock does not, so choose gloss or transparent for anything near a fridge, a bathroom or a drink.

3. What file format do you need for my logo?

PNG, PDF, SVG or AI. Vector formats print sharpest and are required for foil. If your file is not print ready we will prepare it at no design fee.

4. Will the sticker peel off tissue paper without tearing it?

Our standard adhesive holds on tissue, kraft and cellophane and lifts without shredding tissue paper.

5. Where does volume pricing start?

Unit price drops meaningfully at 500 pieces. Below that, standard pricing applies with no minimum order.

6. Should I use a sticker or a tag?

A sticker on every order for recognition, a tag on higher value or gift orders. Tags are separate objects that get handled and kept, so they carry more weight.
